Changing from one ink to another whether from Brand to Brand or from one type of water base to another cleaning out the old ink is a necessary precaution. Each company formulates their ink with different chemicals which can be non compatible with each other. The proceedure is quite easy to handle and should only take about 30 minutes. The simple answer is to run CLF1 cartridges through the lines until they are just about clear. This prevents any slow build up from the residue on the wall lining as well as on the capping station. Place the CLF1 cleaning cartridges in place of the ink cartridges and perform a fill procedure or a power clean. Depending on the size of the printer, you may want to perform two operations to insure cleaning. I would recommend letting the cleaning fluid sit for about an hour before changing inks. If you are going from Epson ink to Symphonic, you can replace the cartridges once you see the lines fairly clear. You can see this on an Epson when you pull the plastic cover down. The lines may have a slight tint. That is OK. If they have a strong tint perform another cleaning or fill. There is no excess amount of cleaning to worry about. You can refill our cartridges and reset them to be used over and over as needed. When the lines are clear place the new ink cartridges in the slots and perform a fill or power cleanings. You may need to perform two power cleanings with a 44 inch printer. Run a nozzle test to check. If you are changing from Dye Sub, Reactive, or Acid Inks to Pigment or Dye ink, you should replace the dampers. If the printer is more than two years old you should replace the dampers. For replacing the Dampers on an Epson Printer see Epson Repair or Printer Repair for Manuals See Printer Maintenance for daily handling.
