Performing most repairs on printers are a matter of knowing what to do and having a guide. We recognize the importance of keeping a printer working well.
Repairing and Maintenance are just two of the services we offer. While Roland offers a good focus on Maintenance, Epson hardly gives you any direction at all. Listed with each item to repair will be the tools needed.
We hope the information we are offering will help you understand how to maintain your printer better. We will be adding information continually to this topic.
Basic elements that usually need repairing:
The elements that wear the most and need repair or replacement are: the wiper, dampers, heads, refreshing pad, and the capping (docking) station.
AIC offers discount replacements parts for Epson and Mimaki some parts for Roland and Mutoh.
You can prolong the wear of these parts by cleaning out the printer with our CLF1 cleaning cartridges once a year and placing 3 eye drops of CLF1 on the capping station every night. If every night is not an option, apply as many times as you can. Even once a week will significantly help.
Dampers:
Years of repairing inkjet printers have made us aware of the parts that need the most attention and replacement. Damper are the first and foremost part that should be replaced or cleaned once a year. The damper has a fine stainless steel screen that filter out small particles. While each ink manufacturer filters their ink well, the formation of these particles have been found in Dye, Pigment, Dye Sub, Acid, and Reactive inks from OEM manufacturers as well as third party. The damper is clear on one side where you can see the filter screen. The damper sits directly on the head. There is a damper for each color ink. They are relatively inexpensive.
Dampers sit directly on the heads and protect the head from foreign particles. The damper also traps air that might get into the head. If a damper fails, air may get into the head causing drop outs. A damper that is filled with particles will not allow ink to flow. With a little practice removing and replacing dampers become pretty easy.
Capping Station:
This is the structure that the head sits on. It contains pad that is used between the head and the pump. The pump sucks liquid through the pad to the head, therefore the pad is constantly saturated with ink. It is one continuous pad for all nozzles. Over time the pad will become gummed and the only way to keep it moist and open is to place drops of CLF1 cleaning fluid on it during a resting overnight period. After two to three years without cleaning it will tend to prevent proper suction. This will result in multiple cleanings to get the heads to fire. One cleaning will clean one set of heads while dropping out the other.
Wiper:
The wiper cleans the head every time a cleaning is performed. It has a life expectancy of about one and a half year. It is also very inexpensive.
